What Is This Strange Drink Mayor Isko Can't Stop Chugging?

To many of Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso’s followers and observers, it is easy to guess his favorite drink: Coffee. He is regularly seen holding a Starbucks cup with the usual greetings from the baristas.
But there is one strange drink he regularly chugs, allegedly to stave off fat and burn more calories.
“I regularly check my weight as a daily habit! Walang masama doon, huwag kayong ma-offend sa timbangan,” the mayor tells Esquire Philippines. “Isa lang ang mali doon, yung katawan, hindi yung timbang. Mas maganda nang alam yun,” he laughs.
(“There's nothing wrong with watching your weight, don't be offended. It's not the weighing scale that's the problem, it's the body.”)
On top of regularly exercising and watching his diet, Domagoso reveals his other secret to looking good and staying in shape: “Nagju-juicing ako. Slow juicing.”
What’s in Isko Moreno’s Slow Juice?
“Kale, ginger, a slice of apple, a slice of bell pepper,” Domagoso says. He puts all these ingredients in a slow juicer, then chugs up what comes out of it.
“I drink that to have more fiber. Meat eater kasi ako, so bihirang bihira akong nag-iisda, so I need fiber in my body to maintain my ‘makina’ sa pagtunaw!”
Domagoso believes drinking the slow-juiced concoction helps his body digest food faster, and therefore, keep his weight in check.
Domagoso is particularly conscious about his weight.
“Before 2016, I was 195 pounds. Tapos nagpa-check ako, nalaman kong ang perfect sa akin ay 155 to 160. So, sinubukan ko yung 155, pero ang nangyari, nagkaroon ako ng physical difference, para kang hindi fresh. Parang adik na hindi mo maintindihan, so sabi ko ang dapat kong i-maintain ay 160 to 165. Sometimes I weigh 166, and I get worried already.”
(When I went for a check-up, they told me my ideal weight is around 155 to 160 pounds. When I reached 155, I felt different, wasted. So I set my ideal weight to 160 to 165.)
It’s good to know that despite the stress and extra work the pandemic has put on the mayor’s shoulders, he still devotes time to taking care of himself.
“I really do it so I will be able to serve and stay in shape. It reminds you and helps you concentrate and achieve your goal. Yes, people are happy to be fat, people are happy to be thin, but it’s just that I really want to stay in shape.”
