A viral post on social media is chastising the world community for taking COVID-19 lightly. In the post, Twitter user @JasonYanowitz dished out harshly on those still gallivanting while faced with the most serious health crisis the world has seen in decades. He then shared a foreboding story of how Italy descended into chaos in several stages, and how Italians were behaving just like how other countries are behaving today—which led to almost 2,000 deaths and 24,000 cases in a matter of days.

What is happening in Italy now?
Italy is the worst-hit country outside China in both cases and deaths due to COVID-19. The country is one of the top tourist destinations in Europe, and this has likely contributed to the increase in cases of the virus in the region.
As of this writing, Italy has recorded over 1,800 deaths due to COVID-19, with at least 24,747 patients who tested positive for the disease.
On January 31, Italy declared a national state of emergency because of the health crisis. Without signs of the virus abating, the government on March 12 was forced to shut down shops, restaurants, bars, and other public spaces in a desperate bid to control the virus.
The country has also imposed a nationwide lockdown, barring anyone from leaving the country and minimizing people's movements across the country.
