Timothée Chalamet Oscars 2022 Look Is Everything I Expected
Timothée Chalamet likes to make a statement on a red carpet. His go-to pose? Legs wide apart, arms clasped at the waist, chin down, and those baby blues up. That's to be expected. His outfit? Something that's always out of the proverbial box. Where some guys change up the color or fabric of their tuxedo, or add more jewelry, Chalamet eschews the prescribed dress code altogether. To wit: the Dune star wore a Prada bomber jacket at the 92nd Oscars ceremony, and a bedazzled Louis Vuitton harness at the 2019 Golden Globes.
He continued this streak at the Oscars 2022 red carpet, where he wore tapered wool trousers, Chelsea boots, and—here's the clincher—a tuxedo jacket covered in sequins and lace, all by Louis Vuitton. But the buck didn't stop there; visibly missing was a shirt. There he stood, his hairless, alabaster chest on view for all to see.
It was just a few months ago, during an unusually warn December, when I took a deep dive into the the shirtless suit trend. Guys like Jonah Hill at New York movie premiere, Donald Glover at a party hosted by Rihanna, and Harry Styles at the Grammy Awards all rocked the look. But they wore them at events that are known for adventurous dressing. Chalamet, however, went topless at the Academy Awards, Hollywood's biggest night, an occasion known for pomp and pageantry.
That, my friends, is a trailblazer, a fella that walks on the edge. Did he fall over? Not at all. Shirtless suits were bound to appear at the Oscars, and it's not a shocker that Chalamet was, as memory serves me, the first to do so.
Am I surprised? Not really. Am I into it? Absolutely.
