Christie’s has sold its most expensive bottle of whisky yet. A 62-year-old aged bottle of Dalmore whisky has broken auction records for both the British luxury whisky maker and London's whisky bottles in general. The bottle exceeded its pre-sale estimate of P2 to P4 million two-fold, with the auction closing off at P7.7 million.

According to the Christie’s listing, “The Kildermorie is a 62-year-old aged whisky from the Highland Distillery of Dalmore. Successive distillers had kept reserves of casks dating from 1868, 1878, 1926 and 1939. Richard Paterson, the famed distiller who this year celebrates 50 years in the whisky business, crafted the liquid in the casks into a truly rare set of bottles of liquid nectar. Twelve bottles of whisky aged in 30-year-old Oloroso barrels were released by Dalmore and each was christened with a Dalmore Estate associated name. The Kildermorie is the local Loch which is the water-source for Dalmore.”

Other Dalmore bottles have sold at similar record prices. As reported by The Guardian, a Dalmore ’62 sold at Singapore’s Changi Airport for nearly P8.4 million in 2011 while in 2005, an unnamed man bought a bottle at a hotel bar for P2 million—drinking most of the rare whisky on the spot.

The Christie’s-sold bottle comes in a presentation case and key. The record-breaking sale took place on December 7 and featured an extremely rare lot of wine and Scotch, all of which sold far above the pre-sale estimates, making an astonishing total of P205 million.

Dalmore’s Philippine flagship store is located at Uptown Bonifacio.
