Kawit Mayor Auctions Off Vintage Car For COVID-19 Relief

The mayor of Kawit, Cavite has auctioned off his rare vintage car in order to fund relief efforts for the COVID-19 crisis. 

In a Facebook post, Mayor Angelo Aguinaldo said he decided to sell his precious 1969 Dodge Charger R/T to help the people of Kawit.

“Mahalaga man ang sasakyan na ito para sa akin, higit naman na mas mahalaga ang kapakanan at kalusugan ng aking nasasakupan (Although this car is very important to me, what’s more important is the welfare and health of all my constituents),” he said.

Aguinaldo said all the prcoeeds of the auction will benefit programs for senior citizens.

“Hindi po biro ang problemang dala ng COVID-19 sa ating bayan at hindi rin biro ang kakailanganing gastusin para rito. Walang kasiguraduhan kung kailan talaga matatapos ang krisis na ito, kaya naman handa akong gawin ang lahat para makatulong sa lahat ng Kawiteño (The problems brought about by COVID-19, as well as the cost of dealing with it are no joke. There is no assurance when this crisi will end, so I am prepared to do anything in order to help all the residents of Kawit),” he said.

The mayor also posted a video where he talked about how hard it was to let go of the car.

Aguinaldo had earlier pledged to donate his entire month’s salary to COVID-19 relief operations in another Facebook post. 

No word yet on whether the car has been sold, who bought it, and for how much.
