Edgar Wright Is Still Going to Have Dolly de Leon on His Ballot, By the Way
Oscar season is officially underway. With it comes a wave of first-time nominees at the 95th Academy Awards, including Paul Mescal, Colin Farrell, Michelle Yeoh, Ana de Armas, Brendan Gleeson, and Ke Huy Quan, among others. There's actually 17 of them, if we add Rihanna into the mix. It's one of the awards show's most diverse set of nominees in a while (or arguably ever, really. It's a low, low bar).
Meanwhile, Angela Bassett, Hong Chau, Kerry Condon, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Stephanie Hsu each occupied the slots for the Best Supporting Actress category. Of course, the results were somewhat disappointing for Filipinos. Noticeably missing from the names announced for the nominations was Triangle of Sadness star Dolly de Leon. Considering that her film got nominations for Best Picture, Best Screenplay, and Best Director, it was quite the exclusion. It wasn't just angry Filipinos who were tweeting out their feelings, but fellow filmmakers, fans, and critics, too.

We know. How could have they missed the captain? Nevertheless, she's been recognized by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, the Golden Globes, and the BAFTAs, after all. The Esquire Philippines January 2023 cover star even told us that she was never really thinking about winning awards.
“Honestly, hindi ko iniisip kasi masisiraan ako ng bait. Ine-enjoy ko na lang ang mga pangyayari ngayon, and I don’t want to think that far ahead," she said in her interview. "I know that some people are saying na hindi enough honor daw ang ma-nominate, pero I don’t think like that e. For me, just the fact na may buzz, happy na ako doon na nare-recognize ‘yung trabaho ko. Kung manalo ako, e di bongga." Bongga, it definitely would have been.
We're pretty sure Dolly de Leon is off doing bigger, more exciting Dolly de Leon things right about now. She's doing just fine.
