Philippine beaches triumph once more. Even a pandemic can’t stop the world from admiring our white sand beaches, endless coastlines, and stunning azure oceans. In the latest Big 7 Travel rankings, the Philippines’ own Boracay and Palawan were recognized on the list of the 50 Most Beautiful Places in the World.
Boracay, with its pristine beaches, landed in 18th place just after Fiordland National Park in Zealand and before Positano in Italy. Big 7 Travel described Boracay as “one of the world’s top destinations for some R&R. Tranquil beaches, casual nightlife and lush tropical scenery makes it easy to see why.” It went on to praise Boracay for its unique food scene and Aklanon culture.
Meanwhile, Palawan ranked higher at number eight just after the Scottish Highlands and before Canada’s Banff National Park. At number eight, Palawan beat the likes of Kyoto, Paris, and Venice. It was described as a “triple threat” for its “diverse wildlife, pristine landscapes and subterranean marvels,” as well as its “huge variety of nature, from steep limestone cliffs to jaw dropping coves and unbelievable beaches.”

Torres del Paine National Park in Chile topped the list at number one, followed by the Faroe Islands, Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, Li River in China, and the Lake Bled in Slovenia.
This year’s list focused on the truly beautiful places, putting more attention on the sheer wow factor on each location and less on the popularity with tourists. Some of the top spots aren’t what you’d call tourist hotspots, but it might give you some ideas on how to spend your 2021 (social distancing considered).
"The news that two of our prime destinations have made Big 7 Travel’s list of the 50 Most Beautiful Places in the World brings not only the Department of Tourism, but the entire country, great pride," said Secretary Berna Romulo Puyat of the Department of Tourism.
"This recognition comes at a very auspicious time, just as our efforts to reopen tourism in Boracay and Palawan to a greater number of tourists have come to fruition. We hope that the latest accolade for our destinations will inspire more people to travel in the near future, helping the Philippines' travel and tourism industry rebound and recover after this difficult period."
