Camarines Sur's Mayor Returns to the Frontlines as a Doctor

It may have been a natural progression when newly minted physician Marco Chavez was elected Mayor of the town of San Jose in Camarines Sur just last year. As soon as COVID-19 broke in the Philippines, the 20-something public servant returned to his first calling as a doctor, telling DZBB radio: "Yan po ang sinumpaan kong tungkulin, kaya gagampanan ko po na maproteksyonan ko po ang aming bayan (That's my oath that I want to fulfil and protect our town)."

According to the mayor-doctor, an employee of the rural health unit tested positive for the coronavirus, causing shortage in medical personnel due to quarantine requirements. 

As he suited up to return to the frontlines, Chavez also asked others who graduated as health professionals to come back to the fray. "They would be a big help," he said.
