SM Hotels Poised for Major Expansion in These Areas
There’s no stopping the Sy family-owned conglomerate from expanding its business in the Philippines. Its hospitality arm, SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation (SMHCC), is preparing to welcome more guests to its new establishments in and outside of Metro Manila by 2028. Slated to open in seven provinces in the country are around 1,400 rooms, while some 300 keys will be made available to customers in the capital within the next four years.

Among the provinces where the company is targeting to extend its footprint are Clark, Pampanga; Dasmariñas, Cavite; Laguna; Cauayan City, Isabela; Olongapo Central; Laoag City; and Cebu South Road Properties. These were specifically chosen for serving as “growth” areas, as domestic tourism, driving economic growth, continues to bounce back.
Tourist arrivals in the Philippines have gone up to more than two million as of late April, according to the Department of Tourism (DOT). The figure is expected to rise even further to 7.7 million by year-end.
“Our hotel expansion contributes to the development of local economies—further creating jobs and boosting tourism through the increased demand for services and local products,” SMHCC executive vice president Peggy Angeles said. “We are ready to support the growth in tourism as we move even closer to emerging regions."
SM Hotels' plan to expand follows its launch of Lanson Place Mall of Asia, a luxury boutique hotel that recently opened. Its current portfolio now comprises 10 hotels and more than 2,601 rooms—with brands such as Conrad Manila, Taal Vista Hotel, Pico Sands Hotel, Park Inn, and Radisson—as well as eight convention centers. Parent company SM Investments Corporation (SMIC) earlier said it was setting aside P115 billion in capital expenditures this year, the bulk of which will go to projects in its property business, including four malls and 10,000 residential units.
