Aesop's New Nature-Inspired Othertopias Fragrances Are as Unique as It Gets

Since Aesop dipped its toe into the fragrance pool, the skincare brand has only introduced a select number of scents over the years. The first dates back to 2005 while the latest, Rozu, came out last year. So, it's a welcome surprise that Aesop has released Othertopias, out now, a trio of eau de parfums which consists of Miraceti, Karst, and Erémia.

Barnabé Fillion, the master nose behind Aesop's recent fragrances, wanted to create complex and unique scents that engages senses in a new way. "Miraceti is distinguished by spice and warmth; Karst by its mineral, stormy character; and Erémia by green, seductive florals. Dry, woody notes ground each fragrance in earth, lending a sense of disorientation tinged with familiarity—a fitting theme to introduce three new scents to Aesop’s established yet always surprising range of fragrances," says Fillion.

The three share marine notes as it takes inspiration from "the boat, the shore and the wasteland"—spaces that, as Fillion explains, are a window to nature: "A smell, whether in the air, on our skin, or on our clothes, creates a world within our world that is both physical and imagined—a phenomenon that blurs the boundaries of past and present, real and unreal, here and there."

In keeping with previous releases, Miraceti, Karst and Erémia are packaged in Aesop's signature bottle.  Each of the Othertopias' cartons also enjoy a creative reworking featuring an artwork designed by Belfast-based painter Jack Coulter.
