Samsung Unveils AI-Powered Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6

Samsung did not come to play with its latest collection. From smartphones to wearables like earbuds and smartwatches, the Galaxy Z Series—powered by Galaxy AI—is designed for portability and convenience.

The GalaxyZ Fold6 and Flip6, along with the GalaxyBuds3 and Buds3Pro, offer upgraded and more versatile options for unique mobile consumers; while athletic users can rely on the GalaxyWatch7 and WatchUltra for their health and recreation needs.

Here’s what we think about the recently unveiled smartphones in the Galaxy Z Series.

Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6

Samsung’s newest foldables are its slimmest and lightest ever. The difference in size is not that noticeable, though, compared to the previously launched Galaxy S24 Series. What’s evident is that the new smartphones are now boxier and have a matte finish, making them look classier.

Apart from the much sleeker design, the products have been improved with stronger folding edges. These are said to be equipped with materials like Armor Aluminum and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, offering more durability and resistance to external shocks. You can be assured that the main screens are protected too, given their more refined layers. Although I can attest that the foldables look better than the older versions, they still seem quite fragile to me; so I think it all boils down to how careful you are when using them.

In terms of performance, both the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6 feature the most advanced Snapdragon mobile processor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, according to Samsung. And I could tell this from how easy it is to navigate and use the smartphones.

Galaxy Z Fold6

The Galaxy Z Fold6 could pass as an ideal phone for work. Not only does it have a large screen for an enhanced viewing experience, but it also offers a wide array of AI-powered tools to help users be more productive.

If you’re the type who takes a lot of notes and writes for work like me, you might find Note Assist to be one of its best features. What I personally like about it is its newly embedded transcript function. It doesn’t simply transcribe any voice recording, but can summarize its key points, too. As someone who conducts and transcribes interviews on a day-to-day basis, this is such a game-changing tool for me.

Another productivity-related feature that may be appealing to working consumers is the Composer. As the name suggests, it composes texts based on keywords—meaning, when this is enabled, users need not put in too much effort to write an email or social media post. The messages could even be customized to reflect your tone of writing by analyzing your previous posts.

Then there’s the AI-powered ProVisual Engine for content creators—an all-in-one software designed for those who are not that skilled in the creative department. Other features include Photo Assist for professional-grade editing of snapshots, Portrait Studio for converting photos into different portrait styles, and Instant Slow-mo for slowing down video clips.

Now, this one’s the highlight for those like me who enjoy traveling. I'm particularly impressed by how Samsung took advantage of the foldable 7.6-inch dual screen for this feature. With Interpreter, users can converse in different languages through real-time translations. All you have to do is enter what you want to say in a specific language, and it automatically translates the text for you. So, then, you can simply show the translated version to the person you’re speaking to. A one-of-a-kind innovation, I must say.

Accessing real-time flight and hotel booking information is made easier with the Galaxy Z Fold6 as well, thanks to its all-new Google Gemini app. It can help you come up with a travel itinerary by providing information about popular landmarks and the easiest routes to get to those places.

Galaxy Flip6

Forget about work. The Galaxy Z Flip6 has got to be one of the most stylish and compact smartphones for everyday use. Truth be told, I prefer this over the Galaxy Z Fold6—and it’s not just because I like a pocket-sized one better. For starters, you can already do so much with the Galaxy Z Flip6 without even opening the device.

Its 3.4-inch FlexWindow enables a whole lot of AI-assisted functions, including responding to texts through automated replies—which can be personalized to fit your tone of messaging. Since I like listening to music, especially when on the go, it’s a plus for me that I can conveniently go through my playlist with just a few clicks on the window.

I have to admit: FlexCam is my favorite of all. The hands-free feature, with its new Auto Zoom function, can now automatically detect the subject and zoom in or out to find the most appropriate framing for every shot. In my experience, it was fast and easy to set up and use the camera, though it took a number of tries before I got the results I wanted. Or, maybe users just need to adjust to it first. I can’t deny, though, that the quality of the photos has really improved with its enhanced 50-megapixel (MP) wide and 12-MP ultra-wide sensors.

Another standout for me is its Nightography function, which allows users to capture high-caliber videos even at night. Plus, it can be accessed not just on the phone camera, but also on the Instagram app.

Overall, FlexCam is perfect for those who enjoy taking pictures—myself included—as it removes the hassle of having to bring your own monopod or asking someone else to photograph you, especially when you're out and about alone.

Is it worth upgrading to the new Galaxy Z foldables?

Everything I've mentioned is just among the range of next-level features you can expect from the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6.

If I were to make a conclusion after only about an hour of testing the foldables, I'd say the prices are not bad, whichever you pick between the two. Of course, there's always room for improvement. But both models offer quality features yet to be incorporated in other smartphones—useful not only for communicating, working, and creating content, but even for leisure purposes such as gaming.

The Galaxy Z Fold6, available in the silver shadow, pink, and navy colorways, retails for P105,990 at the lowest. The Galaxy Z Flip6, on the other hand, is up for grabs in silver shadow, yellow, blue, and mint, with prices starting at P70,990. These rates include a one-year Samsung Care+ subscription for aftercare and repair services.
